Television actress Sukanya Dutta Guha has opened up about alleged harassment she faced during her time in the Bengali serial Dweep Jwele Jai, years after she stepped away from the industry following the show’s run.
The actor shared her account in a detailed social media post yesterday, bringing renewed attention to her experience.In a subsequent conversation with us, Sukanya revisited the events from 2014, when she had been cast in a prominent supporting role by producer Sushanta Das. “Everything was normal at first. I was happy with my work, especially after shooting an important scene that I was told would air soon,” she said.She recalled that the situation took a troubling turn after a late-night call from the producer, followed by an unannounced visit to her residence. “I was not comfortable. We did not share that kind of relationship,” she said, describing how her personal boundaries were crossed despite her resistance. She alleged that her refusal was met with coercion and professional pressure. “I was told that if I didn’t agree, my work might not be shown,” she added.
According to Sukanya, the alleged harassment continued over the next few months, accompanied by what she described as professional sidelining on set. “Despite being part of the main track, I was made to wait endlessly, and my scenes were either reduced or removed. It broke my confidence completely,” she shared.At the time, Sukanya was a young student in Kolkata, pursuing Anthropology Honours while trying to build a career in acting.
“I came into the industry out of passion, not necessity. But I felt cornered from every direction,” she said.She added that the situation eventually stopped after she warned of installing CCTV cameras at her residence. “It took a lot of courage. I was living alone and was scared of the consequences,” she said.Sukanya has since filed a written complaint with the National Commission for Women, which is currently looking into the matter.Dweep Jwele Jai, which ran until 2017, starred Nabanita Das and Indrajit Chakraborty, and later inspired the Hindi remake Rishton Ka Manjha.
