Connor McDavid has once again given reasons why he is regarded as among the best players in the NHL, as he delivered a masterclass in guiding the Edmonton Oilers to a 5-2 win over the San Jose Sharks.
The Oilers went into the game with the aim of recovering from a rather dismal loss, and their captain made them do so in a very dramatic way.In the first few minutes, McDavid appeared as a very quick and decisive player who was able to control the speed and generate opportunities each time he received a puck. His speed in accelerating to defeat the defenders and space made it hard for San Jose to contain him during the match.

Connor McDavid leads Edmonton Oilers to NHL victory over San Jose Sharks
McDavid started his account with a power-play goal in the first period, and was almost as quick to reply after Macklin Celebrini had put the Sharks on top. The captain of the Oilers then took the game by the throat in the second period, scoring two more goals to have a hat trick and put Edmonton squarely in charge.Along with his three objectives, McDavid also made two assists, setting up the goals of Vasily Podkolzin and Jack Roslovic in a very effective power-play performance.
Edmonton took advantage of all three of their man-advantages, which was a big boost following their weakness in that regard lately. The Sharks made short-lived resistance with goals by Celebrini and Kiefer Sherwood, but could not match the pace of McDavid and his creativity. One of the young players who has made it to the league, Celebrini, admitted that it is difficult to play a player of the calibre of McDavid, more so when he is on a roll. The victory has big consequences for the Oilers, as they now become stronger in pursuing the lead in the Pacific Division. As the regular season nears its end, each point counts and wins such as this one showcase the potential of Edmonton as the playoffs approach. The night marked another milestone in an already impressive season for McDavid. His five-point outing further extends his lead in the scoring race and puts him within touching distance of another 50-goal campaign.
