
G Sai Prasad, a 1991-batch IAS officer, will take over as the new chief secretary on Saturday.
VIJAYAWADA: The 1991-batch IAS officer G Sai Prasad will assume charge as the new chief secretary on Saturday. He will formally take over the reins of the state administration in the secretariat on Saturday at 11.33 am.
Sai Prasad is currently serving as special chief secretary, water resources department and revenue department. He is also serving as ex-officio special chief secretary to the chief minister. Known as soft-spoken, Sai Prasad always believes that helping the poor and commoner is the purpose of administration. “Rules are always there to help the poor,” Sai Prasad says. His dedication and workaholic approach has won friends in all sections and political parties.
c The state govt appointed Sai Prasad as chief secretary in last Nov while extending the term of incumbent chief secretary K Vijayanand by another three months. With Vijayanand completing his extended term as CS on Saturday, the govt asked Sai Prasad to take over the charge as boss of the state administration. Sai Prasad, a native of Prakasam district, is the son of a school teacher. He began his career as assistant collector in Warangal (1992–93) in the undivided Andhra Pradesh. He later served as assistant collector in Paderu, Commissioner of Guntur Municipal Corporation, joint collector of Kadapa, and collector of Kurnool and Chittoor districts.
He has also held key positions in the power sector, serving as Joint Managing Director of AP Transco, CMD of AP Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited and AP Central Power Distribution Company Limited, and vice-chairman of AP housing board. Sai Prasad had also worked as joint secretary in the Union ministry of power between 2011 and 2014. He later served as secretary and principal secretary to the chief minister from 2014 to 2019.
Subsequently, he functioned as CMD of AP Solar Power Corporation Pvt Ltd and ex-officio principal secretary (energy) during the previous YSRCP regime. He held key position as Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) for over two years. After the regime change, Sai Prasad was brought to water resources department as special chief secretary. Subsequently, he was given additional charge of revenue special chief secretary.
