Ahmedabad: Family booked for obstructing cops at riverfront from doing duty

Ahmedabad: Four members of a family were booked by Sabarmati Riverfront (West) police after a late-night altercation with a patrol team.According to the police complaint filed on Monday, the incident occurred around 12.25am near Vallabh Sadan when a patrol team was on routine night surveillance in the B Division area.

During the patrol, officers noticed a scooter approaching from the wrong side of the road, allegedly being driven in a manner that could endanger both the rider and other road users.Police stopped the vehicle and found that two youths were riding the scooter without helmets. When officers asked the rider to produce a driving licence and vehicle documents, he allegedly said he did not have them.Police said that when they attempted to take action for traffic violations, the two youths began arguing with the officers and raised their voices in public.

Shortly afterwards, their parents arrived at the spot and allegedly joined the argument. According to the complaint, the parents also confronted the police team and allegedly attempted to obstruct them from carrying out their duties. One of them reportedly began recording a video of the police personnel on a mobile phone while the family members allegedly shouted and used abusive language, attracting the attention of passers-by and leading to a crowd gathering at the spot.

As the situation escalated, additional police personnel were called to the scene. The four family members were subsequently taken to the Sabarmati Riverfront (West) police station for further action.Police registered offences against the youths for traffic violations, including wrong-side driving and riding without helmets, while all four were booked for allegedly obstructing public servants from carrying out their duty and creating a public disturbance.
