The actress was born in Udaipur, Rajasthan, to a Bengali family. While her upbringing was in Udaipur, she moved to Mumbai with her family. Her father was in the Indian Air Force, which prompted her to shift from one place to another.
The family finally settled in Bangalore after some years, where Ray ended up getting her big break in films. She has been active in the industry since 2007, and has worked mainly in Kannada films, while also featuring in some Hindi and Bengali movies as well.
