Ajmal voice of Assam’s minorities: Owaisi in Dhubri

Dhubri: Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Assauddin Owaisi addressed an election rally in Motirchar, on the outskirts of Dhubri town, campaigning for AIUDF candidates.Making a scathing attack on both BJP and Congress, Owaisi said they are two sides of the same coin.He also took on former CM Tarun Gogoi and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, saying, “Senior Gogoi was in politics for long and junior Gogoi has also been an MP from Assam for years. But they have failed to protect and give a lasting direction to the minorities here.”“Badruddin Ajmal is not in the Parliament, so a strong voice of the minorities of Assam has been silenced.

At a time when issues like Waqf Bill are being pushed forward, who will protect our rights if not a leader like Badruddin Ajmal?”, Owaisi questioned, adding that AIUDF is the only party which protects the interest of minorities in Assam. In his own rhythm and style, Owaisi charged CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and said that his politics was based on fear, hatred and division of social fabric. He added that if this is to be stopped, AIUDF has to be strengthened.

He also came down heavily on Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain, saying that a Congress leader talks about playing carrom in the parliament instead of raising his voice on the issues afflicting the minorities. “What can one expect from a leader like him?” he added.“ We are not Bangladeshi, we have been living here for last 150 years and continue to live. If questions are raised about that, we will not remain silent. We know how to fight,” Owaisi said in an emotional appeal to the voters.Owaisi was campaigning for AIUDF candidates Nazrul Haque from Dhubri LAC and Jamser Talukdar from Golokganj constituency.A host of AIUDF leaders and AIUDF supremo Badruddin Ajmal’s son, Abdur Rahman Ajmal, shared the dias with Owaisi.Union home minister Amit Shah was scheduled to address a public meeting at Ratiadah in Golokganj. However, his trip was cancelled due to technical snag in his helicopter. Shah was set to campaign for BJP candidates Ashwani Roy Sarkar and Uttam Prasad.
