ALIGARH : Prof Hammad Usmani, Department of Anaesthesiology and Consultant Incharge, Pain Clinic, J.N. Medical College Hospital, Aligarh Muslim University, was invited as a distinguished faculty member at the National Conference of the Indian Society for the Study of Pain (ISSPCON 2026), recently held in Hyderabad.
At the conference, Prof Usmani delivered a video demonstration on radiofrequency neuromodulation using the Trident cannula for the treatment of chronic knee pain in patients with advanced osteoarthritis. The presentation marked the first-ever demonstration of the Trident cannula technique in India and attracted significant interest from pain physicians and anaesthesiologists attending the conference.
He provided a detailed, step-by-step explanation of the procedure, outlining its indications and potential benefits for patients with degenerative joint disease who have limited therapeutic options. The session was appreciated for its clarity and clinical relevance, with delegates noting the potential of the technique to improve precision and outcomes in interventional pain management.
Prof Usmani informed that the advanced radiofrequency machine required for such procedures has recently been procured by the AMU and hospital administration to enhance care for patients with intractable pain conditions.
