Anna Faris, who once battled the overwhelming dread of potential dismissal while filming ‘Scary Movie’, is now poised for a triumphant return in ‘Scary Movie 6’. She shared her heartfelt appreciation for the Wayans brothers, who offered her that first stepping stone to success, describing this reunion as a cathartic celebration.
Anna Faris has come a long way since hiding in the corner on the set of ‘Scary Movie’. The actress and comedian is opening up about the fear and self-doubt she carried during the making of the original films, and why returning for ‘Scary Movie 6’ feels like nothing short of a personal victory. In a recent interview, Anna Faris admitted she spent much of her time on ‘Scary Movie’ and ‘Scary Movie 2’ terrified of being let go. With no body of work behind her and not even an agent at the time, the anxiety was real. She told PEOPLE, “I remember being just so scared that I was gonna get fired because I had no body of work behind me. I didn’t even have an agent.”
More than two decades later, she is back as Cindy Campbell in ‘Scary Movie 6’, directed by Michael Tiddes.
When the call came in, her reaction was immediate. “I was shocked and immediately thrilled,” she says. “I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe that there was a world where I would be feeling so good about doing Scary Movie, not just good, but great.”
A personal celebration for Anna Faris and the Wayans brothers
For Faris, the reunion carries meaning beyond the film itself. Returning meant getting to properly thank Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Wayans, who wrote and created the original films, for taking a chance on her all those years ago.
“It’s a little healing in the sense that we got to be back together again. That is, for me, a personal celebration because I got to thank them. I’d never thanked them properly,” she said before adding, “It felt like the Wayans brothers were casting me. This time, I got to thank them and feel like I wasn’t gonna get fired.”She described the reunion as “a celebration for the Wayans brothers” and said the warmth of being back together made everything else secondary. “For all of us to be back together, for me, it felt like such a victory. It didn’t matter what happened, how the movie was received. At the moment, it felt so good for me personally. It’s like the cherry on top that audiences are so excited to see it. It’s a really special time in my life.
I feel grateful,” she expressed.‘Scary Movie 6’, which also stars Sheridan, Hall, and Jon Abrahams, hits theatres on June 5.
