Before her identity was revealed, a special guest appeared on stage holding a book about the contestant’s life, sending the audience into a frenzy.Ashlee Simpson Ross was crowned the winner, beating out runner-up Phillip Phillips, a past ‘American Idol’ winner who performed as Pugcasso, with Kylie Cantrall finishing third as Cat Witch and Normani in fourth place as Crane. Speaking to People after her win, Simpson Ross admitted she never saw it coming.
“I definitely did not think I was going to win, but I was like, I’m here to fight, and I’m going to try,” she said.
“The second they said I won, I dropped to my knees, because I didn’t expect it.”Reflecting on her time as Galaxy Girl, she added, “I think just becoming that character of Galaxy Girl and people not knowing who I was, it was just a different way of performing. I enjoyed that. It was definitely a moment of discovery .”
What comes next for Simpson Ross?
The win marks another milestone in what has been a remarkable comeback for Simpson Ross. After a Las Vegas residency last year, she is now set to perform at Stagecoach and the OUTLOUD Music Festival at WeHo Pride in Los Angeles. “Performing is my happy place, and to be doing that again just feels so nice. I’m inspired to keep playing shows and creating new music,” she said.As for what lies ahead, Simpson Ross was equally excited, telling: “New music is definitely to come. I want to dip my toes back into acting as well, and I’d love to do some musical theater.” She dropped to her knees when they called her name, and something tells us this is only the beginning for Ashlee Simpson Ross.
