Guwahati: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma raised Assam’s role in India’s energy story amid his election campaign, projecting the state as a powerhouse of oil and gas production even amid global volatility.Amid hectic campaigning Sarma took to X and wrote, “India’s energy resilience is real. And Assam is at its core.”He wrote that Assam-origin Oil India Limited (OIL) recorded its highest-ever daily oil and gas production of 1,47,159 BOE (barrels of oil equivalent ) on March 26, powered by the aggressive drilling of 73 wells, 300 workovers and improved operational efficiency across its fields. He added, “What makes it even more impressive?… 80,060 barrels of crude oil were produced — marking the highest daily crude output in the past decade.”
“But this is not an isolated success. It reflects the broader momentum of India’s public sector energy ecosystem. From homegrown Numaligarh Refinery Limited to other PSUs, domestic energy capacity is expanding despite global headwinds,” he said.He added that guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership “Assam continues to provide the ecosystem, infrastructure and policy support needed for exploration, production and refining to thrive and power India’s energy security.”
