Five individuals, including three women, have been apprehended in Varthur for allegedly breaking into a woman’s home and assaulting her.
BENGALURU: City police have arrested five persons, including three women, for allegedly barging into a house in Varthur and assaulting a young woman after accusing her of running a flesh trade racket. The accused have been identified as Fateh Dafedar, his wife Seema Dafedar, Baban SK, Suknhar Khatun and Asura Khatun — all daily wage workers from West Bengal. According to police, the incident took place on the night of April 4, when the group allegedly forced their way into the victim’s house and began assaulting her, claiming they had caught her “red-handed.” “A man was present with her at the time, but he fled on seeing the assault,” an investigating officer said. The victim, also from West Bengal, had moved to the city around four months ago in search of work, police said. Following the attack, she lodged a complaint on Sunday night. In her statement to police, the woman alleged that associates of the accused had been following her for some time. She claimed she had warned them against doing so and had threatened to approach the police. “I had told them I would file a complaint. I suspect I was attacked because of this,” police quoted her as saying.
