Lucknow: Jaunpur police have busted an inter-district ‘poisoning’ gang involved in drugging unsuspecting passengers and looting their valuables, arresting three wanted criminals with the help of a digital policing tool, the Yaksh App.The operation was carried out on April 11, when a joint team of Shahganj and Khetasarai police stations arrested the accused during a checking drive near Chiraiya Mod on Bilar Mau road.Police said the gang had been active across several districts, including Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Ambedkar Nagar, Bhadohi and Sultanpur, targeting passengers at railway stations, bus stands and roadside locations. Investigators first retrieved Ankit’s criminal history through the app and then gathered details of his active network.Photographs obtained from the platform were shown to victims of earlier incidents, who confirmed the identities of the accused.
Police also established the involvement of Ankit’s father, Hanuman Nishad, a notorious criminal with a long record of similar offences. The arrested accused have been identified as Hanuman Nishad, who has 37 criminal cases against him, his son Ankit with 33 cases, and Akash alias Gulshan Yadav, who has 10 cases registered against him. Police seized a country-made pistol (.315 bore) with a live cartridge, 198 grams of intoxicating powder, 55 sedative tablets, and two four-wheelers used in executing the crimes.SSP Jaunpur, Kunwar Anupam Singh said that the trio are habitual offenders who frequently changed locations to evade arrest and continued their criminal activities across districts.
