‘Dacoit’ star Adivi Sesh reveals why he thinks like an actor before writing films

Actor Adivi Sesh reveals his unique approach to filmmaking, prioritizing his acting capabilities before embarking on scriptwriting. He explained that if an idea doesn’t feel feasible for him to portray, he abandons it. This actor-first filter allows him to focus solely on crafting compelling emotions and ideas during the writing process, ensuring a seamless transition to performance on set.

Actor Adivi Sesh not only plays his roles in his films but also has a big hand in their scripting and screenplay. The actor who will be next seen in the upcoming romance-revenge drama film, ‘Dacoit’, shared his process of being both a performer and writer.During promotions of his film with Mrunal Thakur, while speaking with IANS, he spoke about how he works as both an actor and a writer. He said he follows one simple rule before starting any film idea. He shared, “Neither, actually. I mean, you know, it’s interesting. My only filter for this is, if I get an idea for a movie, and I know it’s going to be an ambitious one. If it doesn’t sound reasonable for me to do it as an actor, I don’t even attempt to write the film”.

Thinking as an actor before writing

He also explained how he prepares himself before writing. He first checks if he can play the role. He said, “And so that filter is what helps me because once I know that it is possible for me to play it as an actor, I do that thinking about it for a couple of days before I start writing”.He added, “And if I’m able, if I know in my heart, I can play the role, the rest of it is just me focusing as a writer”. The ‘Major’ actor said that while writing, he does not imagine faces.

He only thinks about emotions and ideas. He shared, “Because in my head, when I’m imagining a scene, I’m not imagining myself or any other actor for that matter”.

Switching mindset on set

He continued, “It’s just sort of all the actors’ faces are kind of grey, like I don’t see, I can’t see their faces when I’m writing. And so that enables you to only focus on ideas and emotions”. Once he starts acting, he changes his focus completely. He does not think about writing at all.

He said, “And then once I’m on set, I’m not thinking about the writing at all”.Speaking for ‘Dacoit,’ the film is directed by Shaneil Deo, which tells the story of a convict who escapes prison to take revenge on his ex-lover. The movie also features Anurag Kashyap as a cop. The film is written by both the director and Adivi Sesh.Shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu, the film is set to release on April 10, 2026.
