Mithil Jain; with Aditi Bhatia in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein
After a one-and-a-half-year break, Mithil Jain is set to return to the small screen with a negative role in an untitled TV show starring Abrar Qazi and Priyanshi Yadav. The actor says he is enjoying playing a layered grey character.
“My character is manipulative, witty and dominant, yet has a comic side,” he shares.A huge fan of Sanjeev Kumar, he says, “I want to play more complex characters. I enjoy playing dark and grey characters because they push an actor to perform. I’m a huge fan of Sanjeev Kumar and his performances have always inspired me.”Recently seen in the micro-drama Bewafa Wife (vertical), Mithil believes the craft of acting doesn’t change with platforms.
“For me, there is no difference between TV, OTT or micro-drama,” he says. But verticals, he adds, are a different ball game. “It felt like running a 100-metre race. As an actor, you barely get time to think about characterisation.”‘OTT and films do have problems with TV actors’On the OTT versus TV debate, he is candid about the bias. “OTT and films do have problems with TV actors. They still think you can’t carry a web series or film on your shoulders. I don’t understand why, but there is a bhedbhaav. Over time, maybe the lines will fade and there will be no problem in working across mediums.”Talking about social media, Mithil says, “Being on social media is important for actors I think. In between shows, I make funny videos. Creating content helps me engage with viewers.”
