Gurgaon: A 26-year-old man from Delhi was stabbed to death in Faridabad late on Tuesday after a dispute with his girlfriend’s family at their residence escalated into a violent assault.Police have arrested five persons in the case, including a minor, within 24 hours of the incident.The deceased, Manas Rai, a resident of Jaitpur, worked as a computer operator in Chandigarh. He had gone to meet his girlfriend in Roshan Nagar on Wednesday when the incident took place. His friend Harsh accompanied him.Police said the altercation began when the girlfriend’s younger sister objected to Rai’s visit. “As tensions rose, she called some acquaintances to the spot. Soon after, five youths, Aman, Prince, Roshan, Rahul and the minor, reached the location and confronted Rai,” an officer said.The argument quickly turned violent. The accused first assaulted Rai with punches and kicks. During the scuffle, Aman pulled out a knife and stabbed Rai multiple times. Harsh sustained injuries on his hand while trying to intervene.Hearing the commotion, neighbours gathered around the house, prompting the attackers to flee. Police arrived at the spot and rushed Rai to a nearby private hospital. He was later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Rai’s family was informed and his father subsequently filed a complaint with police. The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination.The officer said, “Rai’s family was previously acquainted with the girl’s family as they lived in the same neighbourhood. Police also indicated that the main accused, Aman, had prior disputes with Rai.”All five accused are being interrogated and will be produced before a court on Friday.
