
A year after its theatrical release, buzz is building for a sequel to Pradeep Ranganathan’s hit film ‘Dragon’. Director Ashwath Marimuthu’s anniversary post hinted at a return, with Ranganathan himself fueling speculation. The film, which grossed over Rs 151 crore worldwide, followed a student’s dramatic transformation and subsequent challenges.
It has been a year since Pradeep Ranganathan’s 2025 superhit film ‘Dragon’ was released in theatres and hit the ground running from day one at the box office. As the anniversary passed, recent buzz has started about a sequel to the film.Director Ashwath Marimuthu marked the film’s first anniversary with a special post on X (formerly Twitter). He called the journey special and said working with his “self-made star” was a blast. He ended his post with a strong line: “WE WILL COME BACK ‘2’nd TIME.” This one line was enough to start talk about ‘Dragon 2’. Fans quickly shared the post and started guessing what could come next.
Actor Pradeep Ranganathan replied in a way that made the buzz even bigger.
He shared an image with two dragons. He wrote about how their bond changed from friendship to a director-actor relationship. He said “Friend to Director transition took some time for me. But now i have the best in both with me.” He also added, “Coming soon.” There is no official word yet from the makers. Still, these words made fans believe that a sequel is on the way.
Actress Kayadu Lohar also shared an emotional note. She thanked fans for loving her character Pallavi.
She called the film the start of her Tamil cinema journey.
Plot of ‘Dragon’
Speaking about the film, Pradeep Ranganathan wrote the film along with the director and also starred in the leading role playing the character Ragavan, also nicknamed Dragon. The plot of the film revolves around a bright student, Ragavan, who, after a breakup, transforms into a rebellious student. He gets involved in a college fight, where he is suspended. He then decides to leave his college and cheats his way into the system to get a job using a fake degree.
His life takes a huge turn when, years later, he is forced to reappear in exams. ‘Dragon’ starred Anupama Parameswaran, Kayadu Lohar, Mysskin, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Harshath Khan.As per trade analyst Sacnilk, the movie went on to make over Rs 151.83 crore worldwide.
