Govt focused on boosting edu: Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi

Keonjhar: CM Mohan Charan Majhi started his four-day visit to Keonjhar district on Saturday by attending the centenary celebrations of Chandrasekhar Government High School here, where he highlighted the state govt’s focus on strengthening the education sector.

Addressing the gathering, Majhi said significant steps had been taken to improve schooling, including appointment of about 20,000 teachers over the last one-and-a-half years, while recruitment of another 45,000 teachers is underway. He added that 13,000 schematic teachers have also been regularised.The CM said the school and mass education department has been allocated more than Rs 31,997 crore in the 2026–27 budget, accounting for 10.3% of the total outlay.

He added that the govt has begun work to establish one Adarsh Primary School in each panchayat, with projects initiated in 2,200 panchayats in the first phase.Majhi announced a grant of Rs 3 crore for infrastructure development of the centenary school. He also declared support of Rs 10 crore and seven acres of land under the Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Primary School Scheme.He said 800 schools across the state are being upgraded into centres of excellence under the PM Shri Yojana, with a focus on improving basic literacy and numeracy through the Skilled Odisha Mission.

Earlier in the day, Majhi arrived by helicopter at Bodapalasa village in Sadar block and inaugurated a 100-metre bridge over the Ardei river. Later, he travelled to Langalkanti village in Ghatagaon block to inaugurate an underpass on the Panikoili–Rimuli stretch of National Highway-20.
