Chief minister Rekha Gupta has said the move will address the growing demand for student accommodation and strengthen infrastructure in medical education. The decision was taken at a meeting of the expenditure finance committee (EFC) chaired by the chief minister. The project, estimated at Rs 573.41 crore, is for separate hostels for male and female students on the college campus. According to officials, the facility for female students will be built at Site A at a cost of Rs 269.19 crore, while the boys’ hostel will come up at Site B with an allocation of Rs 304.22 crore.Officials said the hostels are expected to be completed within 36 months, including six months earmarked for planning and 30 months for construction.

The chief minister said the project was a step towards improving student welfare and ensuring better living conditions.Officials said the project has been designed with a social objective, with a focus on supporting students’ academic growth. Government said that expanding infrastructure in education and healthcare remains a priority, and long-pending requirements are being taken up to ensure time-bound outcomes. The chief minister said that the initiative would help strengthen the institution’s standing and support students by providing improved residential facilities within the campus
