Do you suspect that your Instagram follower list is filled with unknown or suspicious accounts? If yes, then you’re not alone. Spam and bot followers have become a common problem, often affecting engagement and account security.
Instagram now allows users to review and remove such followers easily. The platform also adds an extra layer of protection by ensuring that accounts suspected to be spam cannot follow you without your approval, giving you more control over who can access your profile.
How to remove review potential spam accounts
Accounts that are likely to be spam will be filtered to a separate list in your Followers tab. To review potential spam accounts:
- Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
- Tap your follower list, then tap Potential spam.
- Tap Confirm to approve a request. Tap Delete to deny a request.
How to remove all potential spam accounts
You can remove all accounts that have been filtered as potential spam. We won’t tell them that they’ve been removed from your followers. To remove all potential spam accounts:
- Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
- Tap your follower list, then tap Potential spam.
- Tap Remove all spam followers, then tap Remove.
How to adjust your spam filter
You can turn your spam filter on or off in your settings. To turn your spam filter on or off:
- Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
- Tap Menu in the top right, then tap Settings and privacy.
- Tap Followers.
- Tap Toggle next to Filter spam followers to toggle the filter on and off.
How to remove a follower on Instagram
If your account is set to private, you can remove people from your followers list on Instagram. To remove a follower:
- Click your profile picture on the left to go to your profile.
- Click Followers at the top.
- Click Remove to the right of the follower you’d like to remove, then click Remove to confirm.
