Virat Kohli created a record during his 28-run knock against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, becoming the player with the most runs against a single opponent in the Indian Premier League (IPL).Playing at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru opener went past Rohit Sharma to take his total against CSK to 1,174 runs.

Kohli needed just two runs at the start of the match to break Rohit’s record of 1,161 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders, and reached the mark in the first over.

Building such records in T20 cricket requires consistency over time, regular selection and multiple matches against the same opponent. Kohli has done that against CSK over the years, adding to his tally in repeated meetings.Rohit has scored 1,161 runs in 36 IPL matches against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Kohli has now moved ahead with 1,174 runs against Chennai Super Kings.Kohli was dismissed for 28 off 18 balls by Anshul Kamboj, with RCB at 37 for 1 in 4.3 overs. While the innings itself was not a big one, the record made it significant.Kohli also has more than 1,000 IPL runs against Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders.Earlier in the match, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and chose to bowl against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Bengaluru on Sunday.
