Jamshedpur Power Demand Surges: Electric Cooking Appliances & LPG Shortage Drive Spike

Jamshedpur: The increasing use of electric appliances for cooking food due to LPG supply disruption may have contributed to the rise in power demand in the Jamshedpur circle last month, officials said.Officials of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL) said that along with ACs, increased use of electric appliances for cooking caused an average 17-20 MW spike in power consumption in the last 20 days of March.“As summer peaks, the demand for power will substantially increase,” said Ajit Kumar, GM of JBVNL’s Jamshedpur circle.Officials said that prior to the West Asia conflict, the demand for power across the urban circle, outside the command area of Tata Steel, was 45 MW.

But after 20 days of the war, the demand increased to 60 MW.“Two weeks ago, the demand for power in Mango area was 50 MW. The current consumption demand has increased to 70 MW,” executive engineer of Mango division, Kapil Tigga, told the media.“The use of ACs, coolers, fans, refrigerators and electric cookware has increased the load on the system,” an official said.Appliances seller Ankit Modi said that demand for electric cookware items is likely to remain high till the LPG supply remains affected.
