‘Kept strangling till she stopped breathing’: UP man accused of killing 21-day-old son now murders mother

MEERUT: A 29-year-old man, who works as a daily-wager in Haridwar, allegedly strangled his 55-year-old mother to death over a minor argument in Meerut’s Hastinapur area, police said on Sunday.

The man was released from jail about eight months ago after he was accused of killing his 21-day-old son.Circle officer Pankaj Lavania said, “Sanjay Das was upset with his mother, Nirmala Devi, as she frequently distributed food items to neighbours. On Saturday, a heated argument ensued and in a fit of rage, Das killed her.”The incident took place in Garhi colony. Police said the accused, who returned home two days ago, sat beside the body for hours and tried to mislead neighbours by claiming that she had died of a heart attack.

Suspecting foul play, locals refrained from performing last rites and informed cops. A police team then reached the house and took him away. The CO added: “During questioning, Das confessed to the crime. He admitted that he kept strangling his mother until she stopped breathing… The body has been sent for postmortem and Das has been arrested.”In Nov 2024, Das had allegedly killed his infant son on suspicion that the latter was “not his child”. His wife had filed a case against him.
