The conversation around Tiger Woods has taken a serious turn after his recent DUI case. This time, the concern is not just about golf or his career. It is about his health and life. And the warning is coming from someone who has lived through a similar struggle.
Former MLB star Darryl Strawberry has spoken openly about what he sees in Woods right now. In an interview with Palm Beach Post published on April 2, Strawberry shared a strong and emotional message. He believes Woods is dealing with something much deeper than people can see from the outside. Woods, 50, was arrested on March 27 in Jupiter Island, Florida, after a car crash. He faced charges of DUI, property damage, and refusing a lawful test.
He has pleaded not guilty. A few days later, on March 31, he said he will step away from golf for now and focus on treatment and recovery.
Darryl Strawberry sees his own past in Tiger Woods and issues serious warning
Strawberry did not hold back while talking about Woods. He said, “I’m looking at a person that is deeply hurting inside and if he continues to go down the road it’s going to kill him, if he doesn’t surrender his life to God. And he’s going to keep going back into that dark hole to try to fill that empty void.”
He connected Woods’ situation to his own past. Strawberry had well-known battles with drug and alcohol addiction during and after his baseball career. Speaking from that experience, he said, “Just like me, hurting and got addicted and the addiction took over. It’s a serious addiction problem. Not one to play with anymore. He’s nearly lost his life two times.”He also explained how powerful addiction can be. “A lot of times people don’t know what addiction is really like, and how powerful it is.
It’s very controlling and what it has done to him. The enemy is trying to kill him. He tried to kill me.”Strawberry even pointed to other famous names who lost their lives to similar struggles. He said, “It killed Elvis, it killed Prince, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson. Once you continue to go down those roads, you think to yourself that it’s not going to really affect me like it did them. Yes, it is.”At the same time, he reminded people that Woods is still human despite his success.
“He is Tiger Woods and he has been so successful. But he’s a human being, too. And he’s got shortcomings, just like all the rest of us.”Woods has dealt with similar issues before. He sought treatment in 2017 after another DUI case. In 2021, he survived a serious car crash that left him with multiple injuries. Now, with his latest statement, Woods has made it clear he wants to focus on getting better. He said he understands the seriousness of the situation and is committed to taking time away to work on his health and recovery.
