The much-loved Malayalam TV sitcom Marimayam is celebrating 15 years on air. The social satire has been the favorite of the Malayali audience since 2011. Notably, along with the 15-year milestone, the team has also announced a new update on the show.
For the first time ever, the sitcom will be directed by a lady. Yes, you heard it right.Announcing the update, actor Vinod Kovoor has penned a note on his social media account.“As Marimayam is completing the 15-year milestone, Chandrakala has joined us as the new captain. Ever since the beginning, we had men as directors, and it was Mithun who wore the director’s cap for the last 5 years. Today, we happily announce to the viewers that a lady has taken over the director’s role.
Chadrakala has directed many reality shows before, and from here on, she will be leading us,” reads the translation of Vinod’s post.
For the unversed, Chandrakala is one of the popular names in the industry. She has been the producer of popular shows like Kidilam, Pattile Tharam, Panam Tharum Padam, and more. Notably, her show, Kidilam, has also won the Kerala State TV award for the best entertainment program.On the other hand, Marimayam continues to be one of the most popular sitcoms in Malayalam. The show portrays socially relevant issues with a tinge of humor and holds a huge fan base. The show has Vinod Kovoor, Manikandan, Niyas Backer, Sneha Sreekumar, Salim Haasan, Unni Raja, Riyas Narmakala, Mani Shornur, and others playing the lead roles.
