
Patna: Police on Friday raided the residence of retired IPS officer Amitabh Das in Patna and seized electronic devices and documents as part of an investigation into his social media activity relating to the alleged rape and death of a medical aspirant.
Teams from Patliputra and Chitraguptanagar police stations carried out the search at his flat in Patliputra Colony.During the search, police seized Das’s cellphone, tablet and a letter bearing the Ashoka Pillar emblem as part of evidence collection.Das’s health deteriorated during the raid, and he was admitted to a private hospital in Patna. Speaking to the reporters from the hospital, he alleged a conspiracy.
“An attempt is being made to murder me,” he allged.The action followed an FIR alleging that Das posted misleading and provocative content on social media platforms in connection with the suspicious death of an 18-year-old medical aspirant from Jehanabad who was staying at a girls’ hostel in Patna.Das publicly demanded DNA testing in the case. Police said the raid and seizures were part of monitoring inflammatory online content linked to the sensitive matter.
Patna SSP Kartikeya K Sharma said a search was conducted at Das’s residence after he complained of feeling unwell. “He was not arrested or detained. The search was conducted for his defamatory statements on various social platforms. It was also against POCSO rules. During the search, electronic devices and some letter pads were seized,” he said.
