Patna: Rail services in parts of the state were disrupted on Saturday as the Danapur division of the East Central Railway (ECR) carried out non-interlocking (NI) work, leading to the cancellation, diversion and rescheduling of several passenger trains.According to ECR chief public relations officer (CPRO) Saraswati Chandra, one pair of passenger trains operating between Kiul and Mokama was cancelled for the day. The cancellation was necessitated to facilitate non-interlocking operations for completing the automatic block signalling system on the Mokama–Kiul section, part of an infrastructure upgrade aimed at improving safety and operational efficiency, he said.Several other passenger trains passing through the affected section were either diverted via the Bakhtiyarpur–Biharsharif–Sheikhpura–Kiul route or rescheduled. The changes were implemented to avoid operational conflicts and ensure smooth execution of the technical work, the CPRO added.Passengers faced inconvenience due to the sudden changes. However, railway officials maintained that the work is essential for enhancing rail connectivity and ensuring safer journeys. They said the non-interlocking work is expected to be completed within the scheduled timeframe, with normal train operations likely to resume from Sunday.
