Lucknow: Defence minister Rajnath Singh and chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday inaugurated a state-of-the-art laser, light and sound show at the Smritika War Memorial in Lucknow Cantonment, marking a new chapter in presenting India’s military heritage through modern technology.

The 30-minute multimedia show, presented in Hindi, narrates the history of the army, its major operational achievements and its contribution to nation-building. Using advanced projection mapping, sound and lighting technology, the presentation pays tribute to the valour, sacrifice and legacy of the Indian armed forces. The show will be held daily in the evening and will be opened to the public shortly. The storyline covers India’s major wars, including the 1947-48 conflict, the wars of 1962, 1965 and 1971, as well as key military operations such as Operation Meghdoot and Operation Vijay.

It also highlights the pivotal role played by the Army’s Central Command in various operations and showcases the bravery of Param Vir Chakra awardees from the Awadh region. The presentation places special emphasis on the ongoing modernisation of the Army and the growth of indigenous defence capabilities under the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. It features recent advancements in the defence industry, some of which were first employed during Operation Sindoor, and highlights Uttar Pradesh as a major hub of defence manufacturing through the forthcoming Defence Corridor.

To support the show, the war memorial has undergone a major upgrade, including the construction of a modern amphitheatre, installation of advanced audio-visual systems, and new murals depicting military equipment and war trophies. The initiative has been executed by Headquarters Central Command in partnership with UP govt.
