Reddit shuts down r/all, pushes users to algorithm-curated feeds

Reddit has officially shut down r/all, its unfiltered discovery feed, redirecting users to the personalized Home feed or r/popular. This move, confirmed on April 2, aims to simplify the platform and enhance user experience.

Reddit is shutting down r/all, the platform’s less-filtered discovery feed that showed trending posts from across its communities—including NSFW content. The company confirmed the deprecation on April 2, citing “ongoing efforts to simplify Reddit and improve Home feed personalization.

” Links to r/all now redirect to the Home feed. The shutdown wasn’t entirely sudden. Reddit pulled r/all from its mobile apps in January as an “experiment,” and rolled out a separate test removing it from desktop sidebars. By February, the company had already made the call internally. Thursday’s changelog made it official: the final steps are live on iOS and Android, with desktop following this week.

r/all was Reddit’s last major unfiltered feed—r/popular is what’s left

Users are being pointed toward r/popular and the personalized Home feed instead.

The two work quite differently from r/all. While r/all showed what Reddit’s communities were actually upvoting—warts and all—r/popular filters out NSFW content entirely and excludes certain communities Reddit deems unsuitable for general audiences. The Home feed goes further, using machine learning to surface content based on your behavior. There’s a partial reprieve: old.reddit.com users can still access r/all as usual.

The move fits a pattern Reddit has been building since its 2024 IPO. Algorithmic feeds drive higher engagement and give the platform more control over what surfaces—both crucial for advertiser relations. Reddit CEO Steve Huffman had already signaled last year that the company was “moving away from” r/popular in favor of personalized feeds, and Thursday’s update hinted r/popular itself could change over time. For power users who treated r/all as a real-time pulse check on the platform, the algorithm is now making that call for them.
