Shopkeeper fined Rs 1 lakh in ‘spitting in roti’ case in Uttarkashi

UTTARKASHI: Major action on food safety has been taken in Uttarkashi. The court of Adjudicating Officer and Additional District Magistrate Mukta Mishra has imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Shahbaz Khan, the proprietor of ‘Zayka Restaurant’. The case dates back to October last year, when an incident involving spitting into a roti while it was being prepared at the restaurant came to light. The subsequent investigation confirmed that food was being prepared in an unhygienic manner, following which a case was registered against the accused. Deeming the matter serious, the court delivered a stern verdict and clarified that strict action would continue against anyone found compromising food hygiene standards. Furthermore, fines totaling Rs 12 lakh have been imposed on various companies and vendors in connection with other food safety-related cases.
