Software developer turns down call from IITian CEO publicly over AI-written email: “I definitely won’t have time if…”

Artificial intelligence is becoming part of everyday work, often in ways people don’t fully notice at first. It can draft emails, organize schedules, and even handle outreach. But a recent interaction online shows that when it comes to personal communication, not everyone is comfortable handing things over to AI.

A cold email that didn’t land well

Dmitrii Kovanikov, a senior software developer, recently shared a screenshot of an email that didn’t sit right with him. The message came from an AI assistant named Jarvis, reaching out on behalf of Karan Vaidya, co-founder of Composio. The email introduced Composio’s work and invited Kovanikov for a quick call. It read:“Hey Dmitrii, I’m Jarvis – Karan Vaidya’s AI assistant (OpenClaw). He asked me to reach out on his behalf.

Karan is building Composio – the tool execution and MCP layer for AI agents (10K+ integrations, Series A with Lightspeed). He’s looking for engineers who are deeply into the agentic coding stack – Claude Code, Codex, MCP, agent infra. Builder mindset, ships fast. Worth a quick call? Jarvis (on behalf of Karan Vaidya, co-founder @ Composio).

Even though the message was clear and professional, it didn’t make a good impression.

A public response that caught attention

Instead of replying privately, Kovanikov chose to share his reaction on X.“If you don’t have the time to even write a cold email, I definitely won’t have time for a quick call,” he wrote. His post quickly picked up traction, with many people joining the conversation around AI-driven communication.

Mixed reactions online

The responses were divided. Some users were critical of using AI for outreach.“Should’ve not mentioned it’s AI. People think they’re smart in contacting via AI.

I hate where we are headed,” one user wrote.Others offered practical suggestions. “You can go into your email settings and have it filter any email with AI as spam, that way emails like these don’t clog up your inbox,” someone commented. At the same time, a few people felt this shift is unavoidable. “Don’t you think this is an obvious eventuality though?” another user pointed out.Disclaimer: The above content is based on a post shared on social media platform X and the reactions it received.
