What makes hydrogen stove different

It is reported that this gas stove runs 100% on green hydrogen as fuel and comes with 2 burners.

This table-top unit is made with stainless steel and works on manual ignition, similar in form to a standard stove but very different in how it operates. According to a PV magazine report, this gas stove was innovated by a firm called Greenvize. It has a proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer built right into the stove, making hydrogen from plain water on the spot without any bulky tanks or pipelines.

It is mentioned in the report that each unit needs just 100 ml of distilled water or RO water plus 1 kWh of electricity for up to six hours of cooking.

How does hydrogen stove work

According to experts, the stove uses a catalytic hydrogen burner, which means hydrogen is used as the main fuel and the burner allows for controlled, low-flame or near-flameless cooking. Unlike LPG stoves, it doesn’t rely on stored gas cylinders. Instead, it works with a controlled hydrogen flow system.

Does it harm the environment

According to experts, the USP of this gas stove is that it produces zero emissions, meaning no CO, no carbon monoxide, and no visible smoke.

It also runs quietly, without vibration, making it suitable for indoor environments where clean operation matters. It is mentioned in the report that only water vapour comes as a by-product, hence it is super eco-friendly.

Is it good for commercial use and households?

While it can be used in home kitchens, its current focus is wider, and it is being tested for community kitchens, canteens, government clean-energy projects, and institutional and industrial kitchens as well.

What makes it so costly and its practicality

At around Rs 1,50,000 per piece, this stove is not aimed at everyday households right now. It is being promoted as a pilot project and is designed for large-scale kitchens. It may not replace LPG in homes immediately, but it’s a clear step towards new ways of cooking.
