You are sleeping through the lecture. You feel drowsy the moment you sit at your desk. You pour your third cup of coffee before noon and yet, it barely makes a dent. Does this hit home? While chronic fatigue my require proper evaluation, everyday tiredness is often linked to your lifestyle.
Here are some simple and effective tips to fight fatigue.
Eat often
You read that right. Long hours in between meals will cause blood sugar to dip. As a result you will be sluggish and foggs. To avoid this, try to have smaller, and more frequent meals. Eat regular meals and healthy snack every 3 to 4 hours to avoid have sustained energy. Think whole grains, lean proteins, nuts, and fruits.
Move more
Get moving. Physical activity is perhaps the last thing you want to do, but that’s exactly what you should do.
Exercise is an energy booster. Even a 15 minute walk can improve your energy levels. Exercise improves circulation, and alertness. Even simple stretches, or a brisk walk may help.
Sleep well
Not getting adequate sleep can lead to tiredness. To avoid this get adequate sleep. Aim for at least 7-9 hours of sleep, every night. Simple changes in your sleep schedule like going to bed around the same time, avoiding caffeine at least two hours before, being screen-free an hour before bed, keeping your bedroom cool and dark will help you get a good night’s sleep.
Cut back on excessive caffeine
Most people reach for coffee when they feel sleepy. Sure caffeine is a stimulant, that will make you feel more awake, but it isn’t the solution. In fact, excess caffeine intake can also lead to sleep problems and daytime tiredness. So avoid drinking too much coffee. Limit yourself to one or two cups in the morning and avoid caffeine late in the evening.
Drink water
Now drinking adequate amount of water is crucial to fight fatigue. Dehydration is often an overlooked cause of fatigue.
Even mild dehydration can cause tiredness, poor concentration and headaches. Carry a bottle of water and sip it throughout the day.
Weight management
Excess body weight can put strain on your heart, which may also lead to tiredness according to NHS. Losing weight may help you feel more energetic. Maintaining a healthy weight is important for your overall health, and also to beat fatigue.
