TVK, DMK candidates file nominations in Coimbatore district

TVK candidate for Kavundampalayam constituency Kanimozhi santhosh files her nomination

COIMBATORE: Candidates of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) filed their nominations in many constituencies in Coimbatore district on Saturday amid enthusiastic support from cadres.In Coimbatore North, TVK candidate and city district secretary V Sampathkumar submitted his nomination papers to returning officer Vanilakshmi Jegadambal at the election office in the GCT area. Earlier, more than 50 party workers took out a rally carrying banners of actor-politician Vijay and Sampathkumar, raising slogans and whistling.

In Kavundampalayam constituency, TVK candidate Kanimozhi Santhosh filed her nomination before returning officer B Vinothkumar at the North revenue divisional office after offering prayers at a Mariamman temple.

She said her chances of victory were bright and promised to improve basic amenities in the constituency. Naam Tamilar Katchi candidate Kalamani Jeganathan filed his second nomination in Kavundampalayam constituency, while R V Hemalatha filed as a substitute candidate.In Mettupalayam, DMK candidate Kavitha Kalyanasundaram, accompanied by DMK deputy general secretary A Raja, filed her nomination to returning officer Viswanathan, after paying floral tributes at an Anna statue.

TVK candidate Mettupalayam constituency Sunil Anand also filed his nomination.TVK candidate for the Kinathukadavu constituency K Vignesh, who filed his papers at the Madukkarai Taluk office, said, “As our leader says, the contest is only between DMK and TVK. However, the ground reality in Kinathukadavu is that there is no competition for TVK here. We will win this constituency by a huge margin.”R Sathish Raju, the TVK candidate for the Thondamuthur constituency, filed his nomination before the returning officer at the Perur taluk office. Later, he said, “We will send the corrupt politician’s home. The frightened senior politicians in the Thondamuthur constituency are reaching out to TVK supporters and asking them to vote for their party, promising govt jobs and Rs 25,000 in cash. But they cannot win here this time.

People who did not visit the constituency during the last regime, claiming that they were in the opposition, are now going door to door campaign. Both parties are spreading rumours about TVK out of fear.”
