UP teen killed for 'stealing phone'

A group of men assaulted a 17-year-old boy of Ghamahapur village near UP’s Panditpur on Saturday over suspicion of stealing a mobile phone. Akhtar Ali, the victim’s uncle, said around 9pm on Saturday, Ramesh Patel and his associates raided his house and accused the boy of having stolen his mobile phone.He said his nephew denied the charge, at which Patel hustled him out of the house saying they would settle the matter at the police outpost. Instead, they took Sanu nearby and started beating him. They left him unconscious on the ground. The boy was later pronounced dead at a hospital.Sanjiv Sharma, ACP (Rohania), said a murder case had been registered against Patel and six of his accomplices. He added that Patel had earlier gone to jail in a case of cattle smuggling. tnn
