Nayanthara will be seen pairing opposite Kavin Raj in the upcoming romance drama named ‘Hi’ directed by Vishnu Edavan. Recently, the filmmaker shared that he wants to make a feel good movie as he chose a simple love story that makes people smile.
He also went on to shed light on the casting choices for the film.
‘Hi’ inspired by classic feel-good films
While speaking with Cinema Vikatan, director Vishnu Edavan says he always loved soft and happy films. He says, “I really love feel-good films. I’ve always wanted to make movies like Yaaradi Nee Mohini and Santosh Subramaniam, and Hi is in that style.” He wanted to make a simple love story that makes people smile. From the start, he wrote the story keeping Nayanthara in his mind.
Nayanthara said yes instantly
Vishnu Edavan shared that things moved fast once Nayanthara heard the story. He says, “I wrote this story with Nayanthara in mind and as soon as she heard it, she agreed to act.” He also said she helped in choosing the title. “She also suggested keeping the title simple. So we chose the title Hi, a word that is closely connected to the story.” The team wanted something easy and close to real life.
Why Kavin was cast opposite Nayanthara
Many people were surprised to see Kavin opposite Nayanthara.
But the director had a clear idea. He says, “Everyone was surprised to see Kavin being paired with Nayanthara, but every character in this film is important.” He added, “Usually, we imagine big stars opposite Nayanthara. But for this film, we wanted a fresh and relatable face. That’s how Kavin became part of the project.” The team wanted the pair to feel real and close to the audience.The film tells the story of a man with a good job who wants to get married. He chooses a certain kind of woman and tries to become good enough for her. It shows a calm and mature love story. The film is also said to be about two tenants living in the same building.The first-look posters came out in October 2025. The movie is expected to release in summer 2026, with April being likely.
