Dave Ryding has been the most successful alpine skier in Britain, and concealed behind this success story is the profound backing of his wife, Mandy Ryding. Previously, referring to her by her first name, Mandy Dirkzwager, is a retired Dutch skier previously based on alpine competitions and has a better idea of the requirements of high-level winter sports than most.Their shared love of skiing brought them together, creating a strong bond, and Mandy was instrumental in shaping Ryding’s career path. Off the hill, the couple also put up a life together, both in family and business endeavors, and jugged the professional sports with family and daily chores. Throughout the years, Mandy has been a constant in Ryding’s ascendancy on the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup circuit.
All about the former skier and business partner
The future wife of Dave Ryding was a Dutch alpine skier herself.
Her involvement in the sporting world allowed her to gain much by experiencing what it is like to compete under pressure at a high level, and this later guided her in helping Ryding through the rigorous journey of his career.
The couple also expanded the partnership beyond sport in 2019 by establishing Boskins Café in Tarleton, near Southport. Although Ryding was training and competing at the international level for much of the year, Mandy was handling the day-to-day running of the cafe.
The most popular section of the café menu is the Rocket Ryding Breakfast, a menu dedicated to the renowned nickname of Dave on the ski circuit.
Marriage, family, and life beyond skiing
The couple married on May 14, 2022, after postponing their wedding due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Soon after getting married, the couple had a daughter in June 2022, whom they named Nina.Mandy attended Johan Cruyff University, which was created to help elite competitors balance studies and professional sports. During his career in the international arena, Ryding consistently attributed Mandy as his greatest support system. She made him strike a balance between high-performance skiing and life not in skiing.After the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, Ryding confirmed his retirement from professional skiing, citing a need for more time with his family, particularly now that his daughter Nina is set to join school.
