WWE SmackDown News Roundup: Pat McAfee returns in major shocker, US title rematch, and more

Welcome to The Times of India News Roundup for WWE SmackDown this week. The show opened with an interesting turn in the feud between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton with Pat McAfee’s return.

Following that, the show saw some two allies reuniting to combat a trio force, which was then preceded by some captivating singles and tag team matches. The night ended with a huge rematch for the US title, which kept a WrestleMania 42 showdown intact.

What happened after Pat McAfee’s return to WWE on SmackDown this week?

The opening segment of WWE SmackDown this week saw the return of Pat McAfee. This came after Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes had an intense brawl just when Orton was addressing his hometown crowd.

In a shocking turn of events, Pat McAfee returned and attacked The American Nightmare to align with Orton. He launched a parade of verbal shots on Rhodes and WWE and left with The Viper, seemingly confirming their new alliance.

Who competed in the US title rematch on WWE SmackDown?

Sami Zayn defended the US title against Carmelo Hayes in a rematch from last week on SmackDown. The match was an exciting back-and-forth showdown. However, Melo seemingly tweaked his leg, and that led to Zayn hitting the Helluva Kick as the referee was checking on him.

Zayn won the match, but was later attacked by his WrestleMania 42 opponent, Trick Williams and his new ally, Lil Hatchy.

What were the other major highlights on WWE SmackDown?

The show saw two singles matches where Aleister Black defeated Matt Cardona, and Uncle Howdy beat Tama Tonga and also retrieved his lantern. In tag team action, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss picked up an impressive win over Bayley and Lyra Valkyria. However, all of them were beaten down by Nia Jax and Lash Legend after the match. Another tag showdown saw Damian Priest and R-Truth defend their WWE Tag Team Championships against The Miz and Kit Wilson. The match saw Danhausen’s interference, who accidentally cursed the referee. This led to him injuring his arm and being unable to count the pinfall for The Miz. However, after Truth took him down, the referee used his left arm to count the fall, and Priest and Truth won the match. However, after the match, Cody Rhodes came back to the ring and hit a Cross Rhodes on Kit Wilson. He then grabbed the microphone to say that he had competed against the best at WrestleMania and would not back down from a major fight against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42.Also read: WWE rumors suggest The Rock could make a surprise entry at WrestleMania 42 to help Randy Orton
