WWE SmackDown aired its April 3 episode from the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The show opened with a shocking return and heel turn, building major excitement for the rest of the show.
Following that, the event saw some highly interesting matches and segments. The main event saw a major rematch for the US title between Carmelo Hayes and Sami Zayn, which saw an unexpected end caused by Trick Williams and his new ally, popular rapper Lil Hatchy.
What happened in the opening segment of WWE SmackDown?
Randy Orton came out in the opening segment of the show. As he was addressing his hometown audience, Cody Rhodes stormed down to the ring to brawl with him. Suddenly, Pat McAfee returned and entered the ring to attack Rhodes in a major shocker.
He took shots at WWE and blamed Rhodes for SmackDown’s recent low viewership and low WrestleMania ticket sales. The duo later walked out together.
Rhea Ripley vs. Michin
After defeating B-Fab last week, Rhea Ripley squared off with Jade Cargill’s other ally, Michin. The duo had a good match that ended with Ripley tapping Michin out of the Prism Lock. Following that, she was once again attacked by the trio, only for her old ally, IYO Sky from RAW, to come to her aid.
Uncle Howdy vs. Tama Tonga
This was a singles match between Uncle Howdy and Tama Tonga. The back-and-forth contest between the duo saw Solo Sikoa coming down the aisle in the final moments. After he and Tonga had an argument, Howdy took advantage and hit Sister Abigail for the win, then took his lantern back.
Aleister Black vs. Matt Cardona
The singles match between Aleister Black and Matt Cardona was a fast-paced showdown. The match ended with Black countering Cardona and hitting the Black Mass to seal the win.
Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss vs. Bayley & Lyra Valkyria
Both teams squared off in a tag team collision. The match was an evenly matched showdown between four of the top competitors in the women’s division. However, it ended with Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss hitting the double Natural Selection for the win. Following that, Nia Jax and Lash Legend came out to attack both teams.
R-Truth & Damian Priest vs. The Miz & Kit Wilson
R-Truth and Damian Priest defended the WWE Tag Team Championships against The Miz and Kit Wilson.
The match was captivating, with Danhausen coming down to the ring. He asked for a tag, and Truth did it. Danhausen then got in the face of The Miz and tried to curse him, only for the referee to come in between them. This led the referee to hurt his right arm as he was counting the three-count for The Miz. Following that, R-Truth took him down, and the referee counted the fall with his left arm as Danhausen escaped The Awesome One.
Sami Zayn vs. Carmelo Hayes
This was a rematch for the WWE United States title from last week between Sami Zayn and Carmelo Hayes. Trick Williams was at the ringside for the match. The match was the highlight of the night, captivating the audience throughout. The bout finally came to an end when Melo was favoring his injured leg, and Zayn hit him with the Helluva Kick to retain the match.
