CM Adityanath criticised Congress party, alleging that previous govts focused on vote-bank politics without granting residents ownership rights
Meerut: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday announced that ‘Miyapur’ village in the Mohammadi Assembly constituency of Lakhimpur Kheri will be renamed ‘Rabindra Nagar,’ invoking the legacy of Rabindranath Tagore, who composed India’s national anthem. Addressing a public gathering, Adityanath criticised Congress party, alleging that previous govts focused on vote-bank politics without granting residents ownership rights. He said that the village name was used to “hide identity,” adding, “There is not a single Miyan, yet the name was Miyapur. Now this place will be known as Rabindra Nagar.” The CM said that residents’ identity would now be linked to Tagore. “From today, your identity will be associated with Gurudev Rabindranath Thakur, who gave India its national anthem, and you will be known as residents of Rabindra Nagar,” he said. He said that Bengal has been a centre of India’s spirituality and legacy, adding that Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay gave India its national song. During his visit, the chief minister distributed land ownership certificates to 331 Bangladeshi Hindu families in Miyapur, granting them legal rights over their land. He also handed over certificates to more than 4,000 Tharu tribal families and over 2,000 families of freedom fighters’ dependents in Lakhimpur Kheri.
