In a heart-wrenching incident in Rohtas district, six innocent animals met a tragic end after being left to starve in a sealed home by suspects fleeing a violent land dispute. The horrific events of April 2 saw a fatal shooting, and in the chaos, two cows, two buffaloes, and two goats were abandoned to succumb to hunger and thirst.
Sasaram: Six helpless animals died of hunger and thirst after being left locked inside a house by murder accused people who fled following a killing over a land dispute in Nasriganj of Rohtas district.The incident occurred in Paduri village under Nasriganj police station on April 2. In that case, nephews allegedly shot dead their maternal uncle, Baijnath Singh, in broad daylight over a property dispute. After the crime, the accused fled with their families to evade arrest, locking their house behind them. In their haste, they abandoned six animals — two cows, two buffaloes and two goats — tied up inside without food or water.Left trapped inside the locked premises, the animals endured days of suffering before eventually succumbing to starvation and dehydration. As the house is located in a relatively isolated area, their distress went unheard.The matter came to light only on Friday after a foul stench spread in the locality due to the decomposing carcasses. Alerted by local residents, police reached the spot and broke open the lock.
The scene inside was distressing with all six animals found dead. It is believed they died within a day or two of being abandoned.Station house officer Avinash Kumar confirmed all the animals were found dead inside the house. “After completing the necessary legal formalities, the carcasses were buried with due procedure in a nearby vacant plot using a JCB machine,” he said.On April 2, Baijnath Singh was shot dead by his nephews in Paduri village following a land dispute. Based on a complaint filed by his son, Sonu Kumar, more than six people, including Ranjit Mauwar and Gopal Rai, were named as accused in the case.
