Rourkela: Police on Thursday night arrested a 56-year-old man in Sundargarh district for allegedly sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl.Police sources said the incident took place on Wednesday when the child was alone at home after her parents went out to collect mahua flowers.
The accused, a resident of the same village, allegedly took the child to his house and assaulted her before fleeing when she raised an alarm.After returning home, the child narrated the incident to her mother, following which the family informed local ward members and village elders. A complaint was later lodged at the police station.Police registered a case and launched an investigation. The accused was detained on Thursday and interrogated. Medical examinations of both the child and the accused were conducted, police said.Confirming the arrest, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Sadar, Sundargarh, N Mohapatra said probe into the case is underway.
