CUSB to launch 4-yr integrated BEd courses from this session

Central University of South Bihar will launch a four-year BA BEd and BSc BEd program from 2026-27, aligning with NEP 2020. Admissions will be through the National Common Entrance Test (NCET), not CUET. This integrated program aims to produce highly skilled teachers, with 50 seats per stream. By 2030, this will be the minimum qualification for school educators.

Patna: The Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) is all set to introduce four-year BA BEd and BSc BEd programmes, under the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), from the academic session 2026-27.The NCTE has already granted necessary permission to the university for running this course from this session.CUSB’s deputy registrar Kumar Kaushal told TOI that admission to this course will not be made through CUET (UG) exam but through a separate exam called National Common Entrance Test (NCET) to be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the NCERT. The number of sanctioned seats is 50 in each stream, he said.He further pointed out that the ITEP was adopted by the CUSB in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the curriculum framework issued by the NCTE. The ITEP will be conducted in a multidisciplinary framework in collaboration with other departments of the university.Under this framework, the department of teacher education will primarily undertake pedagogy and foundational components, while the liberal and interdisciplinary courses will be offered jointly by the departments concerned and the department of teacher education, he said.

CUSB’s public relations officer Mudassir Alam said the four-year ITEP envisions the creation of professionally trained and well-equipped teachers capable of designing and implementing developmentally appropriate learning experiences for students at different stages of school education. The ITEP seeks to ensure that the prospective teachers are given the highest quality education in content, pedagogy, values and practice. The four-year integrated BEd will, by 2030, become the minimal degree qualification for school teachers, he added.
