Apple may end support for these four iPhone models with iOS 27: List of iPhones that may be affected

Apple is expected to drop support for several older iPhone models with the upcoming iOS 27 update. A MacRumours report cited leaker Instant Digital, who said on the Chinese social media platform Weibo that iOS 27 will be compatible with the iPhone 12 series and newer devices.

This means that the iPhone 11 series and the second-generation iPhone SE models probably won’t get the new update. Apple hasn’t officially confirmed anything, but this rumour gives us an idea of what might go wrong with compatibility before the WWDC 2026 event, where the tech giant will announce iOS 27. According to the leak, the following iPhones may lose support with iOS 27:

  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation)

These devices are still expected to receive iOS 26 security updates for a period of time, even if they do not get the next major OS upgrade.

List of supported iPhones and expected features

The report suggests that iOS 27 will support a wide range of newer devices, including:

  • iPhone 17e, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone Air
  • iPhone 16e, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (3rd generation)

The leak also notes that any new Apple Intelligence features introduced with iOS 27 may require an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, suggesting that some capabilities could remain limited to more recent hardware.Apple is expected to unveil iOS 27 during its WWDC 2026 keynote on June 8, with the first developer beta likely to be released the same day.

A public beta is typically rolled out in July, followed by a stable release in September. In terms of updates, iOS 27 is reportedly being compared to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, with a focus on system stability and bug fixes rather than major feature additions. Still, some changes are expected, including a dedicated Siri app, a system-wide slider to adjust the opacity of the Liquid Glass interface, and improvements to keyboard autocorrection.Instant Digital has previously shared accurate information about Apple products, such as details on iPhone 14 colour options and Apple Watch Ultra 2 accessories, though its track record is not without inconsistencies.
