Cong targets BJP over women quota bill

Varanasi: Targeting the BJP-led central govt over women reservation bill, national organisation secretary of Indian National Congress, Netta D’Souza said that women were promised rights in Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, but they have been given waiting and confusion.Talking to reporters here on Monday, she wondered that if ‘respect for women is respect for the nation, then why women have not received their rights yet. This has been linked to political arithmetic rather than women’s rights. She alleged that on Apr 16, the central govt linked women’s reservation to delimitation along with several bills. This is not just reservation — this is an attempt to change the structure of democracy.D’Souza alleged that a lie is being spread across the country that Congress stopped women’s reservation. The truth is that Congress has supported it every time.” “We have never opposed women’s reservation, we have only opposed BJP’s political maneuver,” she said, and questioned why there is no clear provision for genuine representation of SC, ST and OBC women in women’s reservation, and why OBC women are not being given their rights.

She said that BJP’s ‘Nari Shakti’ campaign is limited only to stages and speeches.
