Jaipur: A controversy has erupted over the recruitment of contract pharmacists at the super speciality hospital of SMS Medical College, with allegations of arbitrary removals, favouritism and financial irregularities in the appointment process.Mahaveer Prasad Yadav, state convenor of the Rajasthan Pharmacist Sangharsh Samiti, alleged that after the previous contractor’s term ended on March 31, 2026, a new work order was issued from April 1, 2026 to a new firm. Following this, only 10 to 12 of the pharmacists earlier working on 21 tender-based posts were allowed to rejoin, while several experienced pharmacists were removed without any clear reason.He said that new and inexperienced persons are being deployed in place of the removed staff.
Yadav also alleged that complaints are being received of favouritism in selection, and a complete lack of transparency in the process.Calling the matter “extremely serious,” he said the developments raise questions over the functioning of the hospital administration and warrant a high-level, impartial and independent inquiry.The Rajasthan Pharmacist Sangharsh Samiti has issued a 7-day ultimatum to the administration. Its key demands include immediate reinstatement of all removed experienced pharmacists, a high-level probe into the alleged financial irregularities in the appointment and tender process, and assurance of a transparent, merit-based selection system in future recruitments.Yadav warned that if these demands are not met within seven days, a phased agitation will be launched.
