HC stays ‘reversion’ of SHO from RPS rank, issues notice to state

Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court has granted interim relief to Lakhan Singh Khatana, a police officer posted as SHO at Mansarovar police station in Jaipur, staying an order that reverted him from the Rajasthan Police Service (RPS) to his previous post. The single bench of Justice Ravi Chirania passed the order on April 18, which was released online Thursday. The court issued notices to the state govt and senior police officials concerned, allowing them four weeks for a response.Khatana’s counsel, Shovit Jhajharia, argued that the March 10 reversion order was arbitrary and violated natural justice, as no hearing was provided to the affected police officer before the decision. Khatana, who was promoted to RPS in Dec 2025, took charge following the promotion but was reverted based on a departmental committee’s decision in Feb. The single bench ruled to stay the order during the petition’s pendency, emphasising due process concerns.
