Rohtak student earns global recognition with University of Adelaide solar energy project

MDU student Vanshika Gahlawat selected for $22,000 solar research project in Australia

ROHTAK: In a proud moment for Maharshi Dayanand University, Vanshika Gahlawat, a Physics student from a modest background of Kheri Sadh village here, has been selected for a prestigious solar energy research project at the University of Adelaide.A student of the 2023–25 batch at MDU Rohtak, Vanshika will work on an international project worth $22,000, aimed at enhancing solar panel efficiency using advanced quantum technology. Her research focuses on developing durable quantum-cutting composites that can convert harmful ultraviolet radiation into usable electrical energy, particularly for solar panels operating in extreme environments such as trucks, ships, and aircraft.The project will be supervised by noted scientist Heike Ebendorff-Heidepriem and has an industrial collaboration with Praxis Labs, strengthening its applied research dimension.Vice-Chancellor Prof. Milaap Punia congratulated Vanshika, calling her achievement inspirational. “Reaching a global platform from a rural background reflects her dedication and commitment. It is a proud moment for the university and the region,” he said.

Faculty members, including Prof. R.P. Tandan, Prof. A.S. Maan, Prof. Rajesh Punia, Prof. Sajjan Dahiya and Dr. Anil Ohlyan, also extended their congratulations. Prof. Rajesh Punia noted that her success would motivate students, especially from rural areas, to aim higher.Expressing gratitude to her mentors, Vanshika said she aims to use science for societal benefit.
