HYDERABAD: A tiff over dinner turned fatal in Kamareddy town on Saturday night when a 28-year-old scrap vendor was attacked allegedly by his wife with a sickle after he shouted at her for not cooking chicken.
The victim was identified as Kodandam Shivaji from Gosangi Colony.Around 9pm on Saturday, Shivaji picked up a quarrel with his wife Laxmi for not preparing chicken curry. Their relatives Dadaiah and Sharada, who live nearby, went to the house and pacified the couple. However, a little while after they left, the argument resumed, with Shivaji again blaming Laxmi for not preparing food as per his wishes and also for other domestic problems. As the quarrel intensified, another relative, Nandini, tried to calm them down, but the couple continued arguing. “During the altercation, Laxmi picked up a sickle kept in the house and attacked Shivaji on the neck. He collapsed after the assault and sustained a head injury due to the fall. He died on the spot due to excessive bleeding,” Kamareddy inspector B Narahari said.According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s elder brother, Suri, Shivaji had married Laxmi about six years ago and they have two daughters.
The couple was living in a rented house owned by their relative Dadaiah for the past six months. Family members told police that Shivaji and Laxmi used to frequently quarrel over domestic issues, and elders had intervened several times in the past to settle disputes between them.Based on the complaint of Suri, a case was registered against Laxmi under Section 103 (1) (murder) of the BNS on Sunday. The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination on Sunday. Police arrested Laxmi on Monday and she would be produced before court for judicial remand.
