RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh govt has suspended senior IPS officer Ratan Lal Dangi, an inspector general-rank official, after alleged objectionable photographs of him surfaced on social media, triggering departmental action.
An order issued by the home department said preliminary findings indicate that the officer’s conduct was violating the dignity of his position and disturbed the established service norms and ethical standardsIn its suspension order, state govt said Dangi, was found at the preliminary stage to have acted in a manner unbecoming of the dignity of his post, allegedly displaying conduct contrary to morality and service norms, misusing the influence of his position, and violating established social standards.
The order said the material related to the officer was circulated widely on electronic and social media platforms, leading to adverse public perception and tarnishing the image of the police department. Based on this, action has been proposed against him under provisions of the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, and All India Services (discipline and appeal) Rules.Officials said a departmental inquiry against Dangi is already underway.
Following the suspension, he has been attached to police headquarters in Nava Raipur, and he will not be allowed to leave the station without prior permission from the competent authority. The action comes months after a complaint was lodged by the wife of a sub-inspector, who had accused Dangi of sexual harassment and misuse of authority. In her complaint on Oct 15, 2025, the woman alleged that she had first come in contact with Dangi in 2017 when he was posted as SP in Korba, and that the interaction, which began on social media, later escalated into harassment. She alleged that during his later postings, including as IG in different ranges, he pressured her to remain in contact through video calls and, at times, called her to his official bungalow in the absence of his wife. She further claimed that she possessed digital evidence to support her allegations.Dangi had denied the accusations earlier and claimed that false allegations were levelled against him after he complained to the DGP about being blackmailed. The govt order, however, does not pronounce on the truth of the allegations and places the officer under suspension pending completion of the departmental probe.
