“A fraud”: Candace Owens takes sharp swipe at Donald Trump as surveillance debate divides MAGA base – The Times of India

Date:

Candace Owens publicly criticized Donald Trump over his support for extending FISA Section 702, sparking debate among supporters. Owens argued the move threatens civil liberties, while Trump defended it as essential for national security. The clash has exposed growing divisions within MAGA, highlighting tensions between protecting rights and ensuring safety.

A fresh rift has opened within conservative ranks, and this time it is playing out in public. Candace Owens has taken direct aim at Donald Trump, questioning his stance on surveillance powers and what it means for the movement he once defined.

Her reaction did not sound measured or cautious. It felt sharp, immediate, and deeply personal, reflecting a growing unease among some of Trump’s most vocal supporters. The argument is about FISA Section 702, which has to do with gathering foreign intelligence. Trump thinks it’s about national security. Owens and other critics say it raises concerns about privacy and government overreach. The fight has gotten people worked up.

It has made a lot of supporters choose between safety and principle, which is never an easy or comfortable choice.

Candace Owens blasts Donald Trump over FISA stance, sparks MAGA divide

Owens made her frustration clear in a post that quickly gained traction online. She wrote, “Trump is now telling MAGA that we should agree to give up our rights for the greater good. He wants us to agree to allow the federal government to spy on us via FISA. Anyone still supporting this man is a fraud. He has done a full 180 on MAGA and is a Warhawk neocon.”

Her comments came in response to Trump’s detailed message defending the extension of FISA. In his own words, he said:“I am working very hard with our Great Speaker, Mike Johnson, along with Chairman Jim Jordan and Chairman Rick Crawford, to get a clean extension of FISA 702 through the House of Representatives this week. I am asking Republicans to UNIFY, and vote together on the test vote to bring a clean Bill to the floor. We need to stick together when this Bill comes before the House Rules Committee today to keep it CLEAN!”“When the Dirty Cop, James Comey, the failed Head of the FBI went after me, he was using FISA Title I, the Domestic Collection, not FISA 702, the Foreign Collection, which needs to be extended today. While parts of FISA were illegally and unfortunately used against me in the Democrats’ disgraceful Witch Hunt and Attack in the RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA Hoax, and perhaps would be used against me in the future, I am willing to risk the giving up of my Rights and Privileges as a Citizen for our Great Military and Country!” “Our Military Patriots desperately need FISA 702, and it is one of the reasons we have had such tremendous SUCCESS on the battlefield.

I have spoken with many in our Military who say FISA is necessary in order to protect our Troops overseas, as well as our people here at home, from the threat of Foreign Terror Attacks. It has already prevented MANY such Attacks, and it is very important that it remain in full force and effect.

Thank you for your attention to this matter!”It’s not just the disagreement that makes this moment stand out. It’s the tone. The trust that used to be strong now seems to be breaking down. For some, Trump’s stance shows how to be a leader in a world that is dangerous. For some, it seems like a compromise that goes too far. This is no longer just a fight over policy. It tests what the movement cares about the most.
